“I believe that in the future, people may have their genomic map ready by the time of their birth or even before it.” The quotation is not from any science fiction film but about an achievable prospect coming from the research of Prof. Dennis Lo, Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Medicine at CUHK. In 2010, Professor Lo and his team successfully decoded a complete fetal genomic map from maternal blood, which revolutionized the method for detecting genetic diseases and even cancers. As a doctor, Professor Lo has opened up new territory in the medical field through perseverance and innovation. As a professor, he spares no effort in pursing perfection in research and nurturing excellent medical researchers to the benefit of society. |
