CUHK Golden Jubilee Marathon Team was given a head start by winning the "Most Supportive Group Award" of the "Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2013"
Congratulations to the CUHK Golden Jubilee Marathon Team! They have become the proud winners of the “Most Supportive Group Award” of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2013! The prize presentation was held in the Marathon Expo at Victoria Park last Saturday (February 16). Prof. Michael K.M. Hui, Chairman of 50th Anniversary Celebration Co-ordinating and Working Committee, and Dr. Chan Chi Sun, Chairman of the Convocation, together with nearly 70 team members, accepted the award on the team’s behalf.
The team, consisting of more than 1,800 runners, will compete in the race to be held this Sunday (February 24). They will be cheered on and assisted by a support team of more than 300 members. After months of tough training, all the team members are well-prepared and pumped up. Let’s wish them every success in the race!

Management members celebrated lunar new year with the press
Vice-Chancellor Professor Joseph Sung, together with the pro-vice-chancellors and deans, celebrated the lunar new year with the press at a reception held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge on February 15.
More than 60 members of the press attended the event. 10 students, including international and mainland students, took part in a snake-style martial arts performance, celebrating the arrival of the Year of the Snake.
During the event, Professor Sung shared with the press details of the yearlong Golden Jubilee celebration plan, including the Anniversary Fair, a roving exhibition with a series of public lectures held at the Hong Kong Central Library, a distinguished lecture by Chief Justice Geoffrey Ma, the establishment of the Caring Alumni EcoCampus Trail and University Gallery, the “CU50‧The People” campaign recognizing the outstanding achievements of 50 people associated with the University, among other events.

Results of CUHK 50th Anniversary Walkathon Announced!
|
The “CUHK 50th Anniversary Kick-off Ceremony • Walkathon and Carnival’ was held on January 27. The kick-off ceremony was followed by the walkathon that took place at Lingnan Stadium on Chung Chi campus, with the aim of raising funds for the I • CARE programme. There were over thirty teams participating with about 3,000 walkers from colleges, faculties, alumni, sponsors and friends of CUHK. A total of nearly HK$2.5 million has been raised. Walkers competed for awards to encourage participation and fundraising. The result are as below:

"The Snake in Chinese Art" Exhibition
The Art Museum has mounted a small-scale 'snake' exhibition in celebration of the arrival of Year of the Snake, with exhibits selected from the museum collection and private collections. The exhibits include bronzes, rubbings, ceramics, painting and jade, spanning a long period from the Warring States to the Qing dynasty. Despite the limited items on display, the exhibition offers a fascinating glimpse of the snake in Chinese art and culture.
All are welcome to visit the exhibition and admission is free. Details are as follows:
Period: 31.1.2013 – 17.3.2013 (closed on public holidays)
Venue: Gallery III, Art Museum, CUHK, Shatin
Opening hours: 10am to 5pm.

Chung Chi College Annual Education Conference
The Chung Chi College Annual Education Conference 2012/2013 will be held on February 23, 2013 at Yasumoto International Academic Park, Chung Chi College. The theme of this year’s Conference is “The Culture and Science of Reading”.
Professor Ovid J. L. Tzeng, the College’s Siu Lien Ling Wong Visiting Fellow 2012/13, Academician and Distinguished Fellow the Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica, Taiwan, will give an address on the theme together with Professor Chow Po Chung, Associate Professor of the Department of Government and Public Administration, CUHK, and Mr. Lee Yee, Commentator and Columnist. Professor Cheng Pui Wan, Associate Professor of the Department of Educational Psychology, CUHK, will serve as the moderator of the Conference.

To encourage reading and to enhance participants’ understanding in reading, books related to the theme of the Conference will be displayed at Chung Chi College Elisabeth Luce Moore Library from February 7 to March 10, 2013, and at the University Bookstore in mid-February.

Recently a new item has been added to the 50th anniversary souvenir collection. It is an exquisite Chinese-styled fan with the calligraphy of renowned scholar Professor Jao Tsung-I and Vice-Chancellor Professor Joseph Sung. The price is HK$100 and fans are now available at the souvenir counter at John Fulton Centre.
