“CU50 • The People” video series features generations of CUHK people who have shaped the University into what it has become today; the trailblazers, those who have served the community determinedly, those who have lived up to the humanistic spirit of CUHK, and those whose characteristics signify the anniversary theme “Embrace our Culture; Empower our Future”.
The first two episodes of the series feature Dr. Li Choh-ming and Prof. Lo Wai-luen (Xiao Si). Dr. Li, the founding Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, dared to break from convention and strongly believed a university should be built on research. He also defended the four-year curriculum gallantly. Prof. Lo had a strong passion for humanistic scholars like Chien Mu, Tang Chun-i and Mou Zhong-san from her early days and regarded “teacher” as the most valuable identity of her entire life.

The fourth 50th Anniversary Fair Public Lecture, entitled ‘Strategies for Building Successful Brand Image’, presented by Prof. Andrew Chan Chi Fai of the Department of Marketing, was held at the Hong Kong Central Library on July 27.
In the face of intense competition, companies need to actively deploy branding strategies in addition to improving service quality. This will help them stand out in the market and realize a sustainable development. During the lecture, Prof. Chan introduced important concepts and theories in branding and identified key strategic issues for building brand image. A brand is not just about a logo or a name; it represents a complete business identity. Therefore, a successful brand is vital to the company’s development. However, building a successful brand image can be a very difficult task due to the challenges in the process. Companies must tackle these to develop their unique image and identify a distinctive position. Professor Chan also discussed how to map out branding strategies in order to meet present and future challenges.
